How to price a DJ properly

1. Work out the hours from the timeline. Start at the first dance and work back. Most DJs are on site an hour or more before they play, and setup time is inside the package on some quotes and outside it on others.
2. Ask what the minimum is. An hourly rate with a three hour minimum has a floor. Comparing that floor with a flat evening package is the only fair comparison.
3. Price the lighting separately. Uplighting is commonly a separate line with its own figure. Decide whether you want it before you compare two quotes that treat it differently.
4. Ask who is actually turning up. Agencies sell a service; the person who arrives may be assigned later. If you met someone specific, ask for them by name in the contract.
